Breitling Montbrillant Watches

The Montbrillant watch was inspired by the growth of the aviation in the early part of the 20th century and the watch was named after the Rue Mont Brilliant Street which housed the Breitling workshops from 1892-1979 overlooking the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds where many of the greatest Breitling watches were created. The Monbrilliant watch developed inventions and improvements that would significantly advance wrist chronograph movements and was released by Breitling in 1915 featuring the first independent push piece associated with a chronograph wrist watch, as well as the first self-winding chronograph which Breitling debuted with the Montbrillant Chronograph in 1969. The introduction of on-board chronograph movement in watches designed by Breitling led to the companies status as the “official supplier to world aviation" as air travel and aviation exploration expanded in the 1940's and 1950's. The Montbrillant Datora from Breitling with its large 18K rose gold, white gold, or stainless steel case and time keeping precision featuring a second hour display in 24-hour mode, known as "military time" as well as a day and date complication on the dial of the Montbrillant watch from Breitling has become a cornerstone of the collection. Aesthetically the Monbrillant watch collection takes inspiration from the 1940’s with its central 1/100th of an hour indication and the famous ‘B’ logo fashioned in 18K rose gold, white gold, or yellow gold. The Montbrillant watch features either a Navitimer or Air-racer bracelet that transitions from the Navitimer or Air Racer collections from Breitling to the Montbrillant watch collection seamlessly. The Montbrillant Datora features either brown leather, black leather or a stainless steel bracelet which holds the watch firm to the wrist, attached to 18K rose gold, white gold, or stainless steel lugs which are taken directly from either Air Racer or Navitimer collections. The Montbrillant Chronograph watch comes in a 38mm case designed for wrists of all sizes. Several limited edition watches from the Montbrillant collection have been introduced in more recent times including the Montbrillant Chronograph Legende which features a much larger 47mm diameter and was produced in limited numbers with only 1,000 of the watches being produced. The Montbrillant Chronograph watch is easily recognizable through its highlighting of the word "Breitling" with a curved B in the upper third of the watch. In order to diversify the look of the Montbrillant watch, the limited series of Monbrillant 47 offered in stainless steel and rose gold accentuates the Montbrillant watches unique character through its flowing and balanced lines. The Montbrillant watch is a fundamental part of the Breitling history and has become ingrained into the illustrious identity of Breitling watches for decades.
