Breitling Chronomat Watches

The Breitling Chronomat is a classic aviation watch and has been the official watch of the Aircraft’s owners and pilots association for many years. The Chronomat watch was first launched by Breitling in the early 1940's serving as the inspiration for the iconic Navitimer watch line of the Breitling watches. In the 1960's the Breitling released the first ever automatic chronograph watch as part of the Chronomat watch family and in the 1970's Breitling added a quartz non chronograph watch to the Chronomat collection. In the late 1970's and early 1980's Breitling was in a state of transition so it was not until 1984 that a new version of the Chronomat watch was released as a pilot watch designed for aviation and professional air travel with both automatic or chronograph options. This version of the Chronomat Chronograph Automatic watch would be the forerunner to all subsequent Chronomat watches. One of the biggest changes to the new Chronomat Chronograph Automatic watch is that the push buttons and crown are made more prominent and therefore easier to use while wearing gloves in the cockpit, creating a higher functionality for the Chronomat Chronograph watch. The innovative ride tabs at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock mark of the unidirectional, rotating bezel of the watch increases the ability to handle the watch wearing gloves while the 15 and 45 minute rider tabs can easily be changed over to create a countdown bezel if preferable in the Breitling Chronomat Automatic Chronograph watch and the large white hour indices and wide hands provide easy visibility at a glance. The GMT version of the Chronomat Chronograph Automatic watch featuring a Caliber 04 movement incorporated a unique chronograph with a two timezone function. The watches have established an iconic position in the field of mechanized chronograph movements and the watch is housed with several unique touches like the now famous rider tab which was introduced by Breitling in 1982 marking a special place for the Chronomat watch under the Breitling flagship. The Chronomat watch features several different options for the case which include stainless steel, steel and gold and 18K Rose Gold. With an accurate self winding chronograph, the Chronomat watch is often believed to have the world’s most precise and accurate self winding chronograph movements. The mechanical movements of the watch are further accomplished with a perfect finishing and the designing given to the bracelet of the Chronomat watch. The Chronomat Chronograph Automatic watch has become popular among pilots and watch enthusiasts alike so Breitling begin widening the model with further emphasis on the appeal of mechanical movements. By 1996 the Chronomat watch had over 1000 variations available to the public with various combinations of stainless steel, 18K gold, and platinum metals combined with various leather straps and deployant buckles with various chronograph functions with quartz and automatic options. All of the watches from the Chronomat Chronograph watch collection feature a 24-hour second timezone indicator for aviation crews passing through multiple time zones on a single flight. The Chronomat watch from Breitling features a robust 44mm case set on a pilot bracelet that can either consist on stainless steel, or a combination of stainless steel and 18K yellow gold. The Chronomat watch has been a cornerstone of the Breitling watch family for generations; it is the watch from which so many other Breitling collections evolved from.
